Ordering Process

The University’s name, logos, marks, indicia and other assets are trademarked. Our licensing team ensures our trademarked assets are only reproduced by those who have permission from the University to do so.

Yes, if you are ordering merchandise with UVA’s names, logos, marks or other trademarked assets, only licensed vendors are authorized to produce the products. Visit our licensed vendors page to find a vendor and learn more about the process licensed vendors use to produce your merchandise. 

For more information on University licensed art for use on promotional materials, visit our page on approved art. Also, licensed vendors are required to submit artwork to our licensing team for approval before the items are produced, so your artwork will be reviewed. If you’d like to get ahead of the game and find out whether your custom art meets standards before you place an order, please feel free to send the art to licensing@virginia.edu and we will be happy to advise you. This can help you avoid ordering delays later.

When placing a University mark on a promotional item, the mark must include a trademark symbol. If needed, your vendor will update your mark with the trademarked version before producing your items.

To become a licensed UVA vendor, you must apply for a license through the University’s licensing agency, the Collegiate Licensing Company. The application for a license can be found here.

Yes, UVA offers a limited crafter licensing program. This program enables small vendors to use University trademarks or branding on non-apparel items sold in the craft market (e.g., craft fairs and shows, Etsy and Facebook Marketplace). 

The crafter agreement has limited, clearly defined sales channels, and royalties are not charged on individual sales. Crafter licensees are limited to $2,500 in sales and/or 500 units of products bearing UVA trademarks or branding each contract period.
